The Sunbeam 12/16HP model, developed by Louis Kotalien, was represented at the end of 1909. This solid sports and tourist car was equipped with a 2.41 liters four-cylinder engine with side valves and pair of cast cylinders. In 1912, new three-liter upper upper units began to install on Sunbeam 12/16HP. The updated “Sanbim” turned out to be a rather strong and very effective car, which confirmed in the racing competitions of the French Grand Prix, as well as at the Cup of the Vatyuretok, where he came to the finish line first.
Subsequently, serious changes were made to serial versions of Sunbeam 12/16HP: the motor received an additional lubricant system, lightweight pistons and chassis with friction shock absorbers. Inspired by sports successes, the company’s management decided to build simplified versions of racing cars for ordinary buyers.
During the First World War, 12/16HP was used as official vehicles for officers. Since at that time the Sanbim company was engaged in the production of aircraft and other military equipment, the production of cars was transferred to the company Rover. After the war, the release of Sunbeam 12/16HP was resumed and lasted until 1922. The latest versions of the model had an electric starter and a semi -elliptic rear suspension.
