The Japanese car manufacturer Lexus said that he plans to create a new car in the segment of sports crossovers. The car manufacturer decided to create a competitor for models Audi Q3 and BMW X1, and at the same time the machine will receive a hybrid motor.
According to Automotive News, sending its sources in Lexus, a year later at the Geneva Auto Show 2014, you can expect a presentation of the serial luxury class crossover.
This car will be built on the Toyota RAV4 platform (recall that Toyota Corporation owns the Lexus brand). The new sports crossover can take place below Lexus RX 450H and will be the first car in the class of compact crossovers. At the same time, the Novika from Lexus will receive a hybrid engine.
Most likely, hybrid technologies will be installed in the new crossover, similarly as in Lexus is 300h (the sedan was equipped with a 4-cylinder engine for 2.5. liters that works paired with an electric motor).
Toyota did not want to comment on new Lexus plans. Even at the Detroit car dealership, Katsuo Okhara (head of Lexus) said that his company will show the concept of a crossover at a car show in Tokyo, which will be held in November 2013.
Due to the rapidly growing demand for compact crossovers, all world car manufacturers are in a hurry to present their new products in this class. The main competitors of the new Lexus crossover should be Nissan Juke, BMW X1, Audi Q3 and Opel Mokka. According to the IHS Automotive analytical department, by 2015, sales of such crossovers will be more than 500 thousand. per year (last year the sales amounted to 154,461).
