The design is quite simple, but at the same time harmonious and original. The salon was quite spacious, which allowed to provide a place not only to passengers sitting in front, but also to those who are sitting behind. The Renault 21 machine panel is made in the form of direct planes of the associated at different angles. During the existence of the model, many of its modifications have been created. The station wagon with all -wheel drive turned out to be especially in demand, which received its own NVADA name.
Due to the fact that its wheelbase was increased by 15 centimeters, the salon turned out to be much more spacious than the sedan and hatchback, and its luggage compartment was the most spacious among classmates. Of course, such a brand cannot be compared with modern cars, look at the test of Renault Flyuns and you will understand everything yourself. But still, for those years, such a car was super improved.
For 12 years during which the Renault 21 car was produced, up to 10 different power units were installed on it. These were both gasoline and diesel engines, power, which varyed from 65 to 175 horsepower. They were united by only one quality – durability. Modification with the most powerful engine was released in mid-1987. It was a 2-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that allowed the Renault 21 car to 227 kilometers per hour.
Initially, modifications were produced only with a 4- or 5-speed manual transmission, but subsequently versions appeared with a 4-band automatic transmission. The management was very light, since the vehicle was installed on the hydraulic power steering, and the collapse of the front wheels was negative. The suspension was standard: mcpherson in front, from the back torsion-nuclear. The brakes were equipped with ABS and were very reliable.
In France, these models stopped doing in 1994. The last car Renault 21 left the assembly line in 1998 in Turkey. He could not compete with his famous colleague Renault 19.
