Back in 2007, on the eve of his 70th anniversary, Ferdinand Pikh, the chairman of Volkswagen, made a bold promise that in the next few years the company will be able to release a car that will consume less than 1.2 liters per 100 km of path. In fact, a similar concept car with a 1.0-liter engine was presented five years ago.
But then few complained about the cost of fuel, and to release such a serial car seemed a real fantastic. But it turns out that Volkswagen engineers turned out all this time stubbornly worked to turn the concept into a serial prototype.
Our photographers-shpions again tracked the serial version of VW XL1 during road tests.
It is noteworthy that the prototype looks identical to the concept-the same streamlined shapes, scissors-doors, angular LED headlights and rear wheels hidden under the wings. The factor of the concept-control of the windshield is at the level of 0.186 CD. This is a fantastic result.
The serial version will most likely be equipped with a hybrid power plant with a 0.8-liter two-cylinder diesel engine and an electric motor that issues a total of 73 horsepower. Overclocking the novelty up to 100 will be about 12 seconds.
VW XL1 should debut at the end of next year, most likely at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
